My understanding is that you can't get rid of the RFK all together because that's where the lines (for the turning and the obstacles) are overlayed and processed, otherwise the communication to the CCC is via RGB if that wasn't the case than you could just get a better rear view camera to replace the RFK to produce the image, send the video signal to the CCC via RGB and keep the RFK to avoid triggering errors and to tap into the activation signal (sent via MOST or K-CAN) for the new camera. We use cookies and similar tools that are necessary to enable you to make purchases, to enhance your shopping experiences and to provide our services, as detailed in our Cookie Notice. I'm just wondering if it would be possible to buy a CCD rear view camera and replace our CMOS sensor with the CCD: that should lead to some quality improvements. I've done some investigation on the topic: inside the RFK module used in the CCC there is CMOS sensor. If the quality of your rear view worse than the quality of a car with native CIC? I'm not really considering using any OEM components since I don't think there's any plug and play module I'm actually looking at possibly switching out the actual camera and wiring it in the existing hardware and module.Ĭlick to expand. Thanks for the reply blue dragon: I was hoping you'd chime in since you did the retrofit. I wanted to ask members some help with a couple of questions/confirmation:ġ) For anyone who have had X5 with both the CCC and the CIC (HD based): is the image quality of the rear view camera different?Ģ) For anyone who has retrofitted the CIC in a CCC car: has the image of the rear view camera improved? If it did do you have any sense on whether it is the result of the better screen/processing unit (my understanding is the swap keep the original backup camera and has an adapter added between the CIC processing unit and the backup camera hardware)?ģ) Does anyone knows what kind of sensor does the camera has?Ĥ) Has anyone venture down this path in the past? I'm doing some homework to see if it is possible to change the rear view camera with something that has a better quality my car is a 2009 with the CCC (DVD based) system.
